BROOKHAVEN &8212; The Centreville Tigers knew they had to play close to a perfect game to defeat the Brookhaven Academy Cougars Friday night. And they had to contain quarterback Price Sessums

Neither of those things happened as the Cougars jumped to an 18-0 lead and rolled to a 38-21 win over the Tigers in the first round of the MPSA Class AA South State playoffs.

Centreville had no answer for Sessums, who accounted for all six of Brookhaven Academy&8217;s touchdowns &8212; five on the ground and one through the air.

Sessums had touchdown runs of 61, 2, 4, 7 and 4 yards and threw a 13-yard scoring pass to Seth Cliburn.

The Tigers offense, on the other hand, couldn&8217;t get much of anything going in the first half and they were lucky not to be down more than 18-0 at halftime.

Centreville scored on a 9-yard run by Anthony Lopez to cut the lead to 18-7 early in the third quarter, but two touchdowns by the Cougars later in the quarter put the game away.

Brookhaven Academy (11-1), ranked No. 2 in Class AA and the District 6-AA champion, will take on Porters Chapel, a 34-6 winner over Central Private, in the second round Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Centreville, which got in the playoffs as the South Wild Card No. 1 after being ranked No. 2 in Class AA earlier in the season, finished the season with a four-game losing streak and a 7-5 record.
