NATCHEZ &8212; The Natchez High Lady Bulldogs overcame three injuries and a couple of questionable calls to pick up a district win over Jim Hill Friday night at home.
Leading 1-0 throughout most of the game, the Lady Bulldogs appeared headed for the win when a questionable penalty was called, giving the Lady Tigers a penalty kick. The kick was true, tying the game at one in the 78th minute, sending the game into overtime.
After two scoreless extra periods, the game went to penalty kicks.
After two straight Jim Hill misses, the Lady Bulldogs&8217; Nicole Ballard finally broke through, hitting her shot to give Natchez a 1-0 lead.
Jadtrl Heard then hit her shot to put the Lady Bulldogs up 2-0 after three rounds.
Kandice Reynolds got the final shot and was stopped, giving Natchez the win.
&8220;It was a good win, but we didn&8217;t play very well,&8221; said head coach Lena Yarbrough. &8220;We&8217;re a lot better than this team, and I think we kind of played down to their level.&8221;
Rough play by Jim Hill led to several Natchez injuries, and Jessica Evans, who scored Natchez&8217;s only goal in the 25th minute was also injured after rolling her ankle.
The win improved Natchez&8217;s record to 2-1 on the season, and 1-0 in district play.
&8220;It was a good district win, but I&8217;m not very happy with the way we got it,&8221; Yarbrough said.
