VIDALIA &8212; The Vidalia Women&8217;s Club Christmas parade will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Chairwoman Nancy McLemore said this is the women&8217;s club&8217;s 16th year to host the event and the theme for the year is &8220;peace on earth.&8221;
&8220;This is a great way to kick off the Christmas holidays,&8221; McLemore said. &8220;It&8217;s also a great way for families to spend their Sunday afternoon and who knows? You might even catch some candy.&8221;
McLemore said people may enter floats either in the small or large float category and first, second-and third-place cash prizes would be awarded to the best floats.
Judges will base their decisions on how well the float is made and how well it represents the theme, McLemore said.
McLemore also said it is not too late for people or groups to register floats.
&8220;It is too early to tell how many floats or pieces will be in this year&8217;s parade but we&8217;re hoping for as much participation as possible,&8221; McLemore said.
Last year the parade had about 50 entries, McLemore said, including floats, cars, horse-riding clubs and the Vidalia High School and Vidalia Middle School bands.
McLemore said floats would start at Vidalia Upper Elementary School, make their way west down Carter Street, where they would be judged in front of the Vidalia welcoming center and end at Vidalia High School.
