We’re eight days away and the holiday helpers are in full swing. In addition to the work of several local charities this week, some other good news graced our lives. Let’s review:

A still-new industry in Ferriday is ready to expand a little. Ferriday Oil and Seed shared plans with the town council Tuesday to expand their work to include a bagging process. The process would require six new employees.

The company asked the town for permission to lease the former Kelly’s Kids building. It would be great to see this corporation grow and use a previously abandoned facility in town.

The Natchez food pantry has dished out its first meals — in can form. An idea that formed about six months ago has now taken flight, just in time for Christmas. Those who qualify can visit on Thursdays to receive food. Donations can be dropped off at the pantry at the corner of N. Shields Lane and Wood Avenue.

Approximately 50 area children got an early Christmas and a fun day Saturday when law enforcement officers chauffeured them to breakfast, shopping and lunch. The annual Santa Cop program buys children in need clothes and toys they might not otherwise receive.

With a week left, Santa’s down to the checking it twice portion of his list duties, and an extra good last week before Christmas may carry some weight with the big guy.
