NATCHEZ &8212; Friday night&8217;s non-district game between the ACCS Lady Rebels and the Centreville Lady Tigers turned out to be much closer than anyone at the Bob Ulmer Gym expected.
With Katie Anne Swinny held in check, the Lady Rebels got some much-needed help from Ariana DeLaSalle, who scored a game-high 18 points in a 43-30 win over the Lady Tigers.
Centreville&8217;s defense held Swinny to just six points. However, the Lady Tigers could not slow down DeLaSalle, who was one of just two players to score in double figures in the game.
Amber Addington led Centreville with 13 points and Chelsey DeLee added six points.
The first half was a close one from the opening tip to the horn ending the second quarter.
ACCS (16-3) led just 14-10 after one quarter of play and then by just three points, 23-20, at halftime.
But the Lady Rebels&8217; defense was instrumental in helping them pull away in the second half. They held the Lady Tigers to just four points in the third quarter and six in the fourth quarter.
Huntington boys 68, Central School 39
GRAND CANE, La. &8212; After a thrilling one-point win over No. 3 Riverdale Thursday night, head coach David Boydstun had to be concerned about how the top-ranked Hounds would respond against the Pioneers.
After holding a surprisingly slim 17-13 lead after one quarter of play, Huntington ended his worries by outscoring Central School 23-7 in the second quarter for a 40-20 halftime lead en route to a 29-point win.
Zack Brown led Huntington (14-1) with 14 points. Antonio Jordan scored 12 points and Phillip Washington chipped in with 11 points.
Cathedral boys 54, Enterprise 45
WESSON &8212; Leading by just a scant one point at halftime, the Green Wave&8217;s defense proved to be a big key as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 12-4 what turned out to be the decisive third quarter in the boys&8217; semifinals of the Wesson Tournament.
Cathedral (8-8) will take on the winner of the Dexter/Wesson game in the boys&8217; championship game today at 8:30 p.m.
The Green Wave got off to a good start and took a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. But Enterprise responded by outscoring the Green Wave 14-10 in the second quarter and trailed 22-21 at the break.
After Cathedral increased its lead to nine points by the end of third quarter, the fourth quarter turned out to be a scoring fest. Enterprise scored 20 points, but, much to the Yellow Jackets&8217; dismay, so did the Green Wave.
Juan Gray led Cathedral with 18 points. Andy Lucas contributed with 15 points and Skylar Bacon had 11 points. Andrew Williams and Jamie Smith led Enterprise with 12 points each.
In other action at the Wesson Tournament, the Lady Green Wave lost to Enterprise 41-32 and will take on the loser of the Dexter/Wesson game today at 1 p.m. in a loser&8217;s bracket game.
