gloster &8212; State and local authorities are searching for four males involved in a bank robbery in Gloster Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. three black males entered the Trustmark Bank on Main Street and showed a weapon, Gloster Police Chief Tommie Lee said.
The fourth man did not enter the bank.
The men were allegedly carrying a 9 mm handgun, and left with an undetermined amount of money, Lee said.
Authorities recovered $50,000 later that day along the side of the road about two blocks from the bank, he said.
Approximately two hours later, a citizen in Wilkinson County called in a report of a car fire. Authorities discovered a vehicle on Macedonia Road matching the description of the car in which the suspects left the bank. The car had been burned, and was nearly destroyed. Lee said it appears the suspects set the vehicle on fire.
Police recovered two other guns, including an assault rifle, from near the scene of the burned vehicle, Lee said.
&8220;We have no leads right now,&8221; Lee said. &8220;(We believe) they went north of Gloster, going toward Crosby.&8221;
The case has now been turned over the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The bank was open at the time of the incident, but no customers were inside. No one was injured.
The Amite County Sheriffs Office, Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Wilkinson County Sheriff&8217;s Office, Centreville Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff&8217;s Department, Adams County Sheriff&8217;s Department and Mississippi Department of Transportation responded to the scene.
