NATCHEZ &8212; New Orleans has always found its way to Natchez and this weekend New Orleans own Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes will team up with the Miss-Lou&8217;s Sextion Eight Band to deliver a helping of Southern Fried Gumbo sounds.
Mixing jazz, rock, funk and hip-hop, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes are six classical music majors from Loyola University in New Orleans who have been major players in the New Orleans music circuit since 2002.
With a barrage of instruments ranging from guitars and trumpets,
cellos and saxophones to flutes and turn tables, this band is known from coast to coast for its on stage energy and fun.
This isn&8217;t their first trip to Natchez however; the band performed during the 2005 Balloon Race festivities, as did Sextion Eight, a four man band, consisting of Natchez natives Brandon Mcranie, lead vocals and guitar; Robbie Cloy, harmonica; John Cooper, bass cello and lead guitarist Casey Gilbert, from Vidalia.
Formed over a year ago, the band has performed original music and popular tunes throughout Mississippi and Louisiana and are regulars at local spots such as the Under-the-Hill Saloon, Slough Daddy&8217;s and Bowies.
The show begins 9 p.m. Saturday at Bobby J&8217;s at 727 Franklin St. Admission is
$8 at the door.
