MCCOMB &8212; On a wet, sloppy field Friday night, the game between the McComb Lady Tigers and the visiting Cathedral Lady Green Wave turned out to be one of two halves.
McComb scored six goals in the first half and could have scored more en route to a 6-0 halftime, but Cathedral made it interesting in the second half and the Lady Tigers had to hold on for a 7-5 win.
&8220;I was missing three starters and we started out kind of lethargic,&8221; Lady Green Wave head coach David Gaud/ said. &8220;We just weren&8217;t playing up to snuff.&8221;
Cathedral goalie Abby Brown kept McComb from really putting the game away in the first half.
&8220;The first half, my goalie had 23 or 24 saves,&8221; Gaud/ said. &8220;The second half she had seven or eight saves.&8221;
Which was indicative of how aggressive the Lady Green Wave played in the second half. Five different players scored goals for Cathedral &8212; Kalin Kirkwood, Marti Ellard, Megan Whittington, Joanna David, and Kristina Brumfield.
&8220;Four of the goals we scored in seven minutes,&8221; Gaud/ said. &8220;The second half we played soccer like we&8217;re capable of playing. But we just didn&8217;t have quite enough time to come back.&8221;

MCCOMB &8212; Two goals by the Tigers late in the first half was all they needed, but they scored two more goals in the second half and came within six minutes of a shutout win.
Eric Hollowell made sure that Cathedral (4-4-2) would not be shut out when he scored on a breakaway at the 84th minute of the second half.
McComb took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Stuart Abel at the 27th minute and Laney Sullivan at the 35th minute.
Abel scored his goal on a free kick and Sullivan took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Green Wave for his goal.
&8220;We didn&8217;t do a good job clearing it out and (Sullivan) punched it in,&8221; Green Wave head coach Rick Freeman said.
Devon Butler gave McComb a 3-0 lead with a goal from just outside the penalty box at the 63rd minute. Steven Gunnell made it 4-0 at the 68th minute.
&8220;Steven scored on a corner kick. It bounced around and he punched it in,&8221; Freeman said.
