Marguerite Walls

March 22, 1922 – Dec. 26, 2006

NATCHEZ – Services for Marguerite Walls, 84, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Bryant Reed officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Ms. Walls was born March 22, 1922, in Kentwood, La., the daughter of Hugh Henry and Mary Lee Albritton Walls. She moved with the family to Natchez at an early age and attended Natchez Public Schools. Following graduation, she worked for the Natchez Democrat and was Deputy Clerk in the Chancery Clerk’s office. She later attended Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky., and thereafter established herself as a secretary with the Methodist Home-Hospital in New Orleans. After having worked there for many years, she embarked upon a new career as an administrator with the law firm of Kullman-Lang in New Orleans. Upon retirement, Ms. Walls returned to Natchez to make her home. She was a member of Jefferson Street United Methodist Church and sang in the its choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clinton Walls and Ray Walls; sisters, Lexie Blythe, Ella Bowlin, Lois Magoun, and Frances Drouant.

Survivors include her sisters, Maloy Williams of Austin, Texas and Juanita Hooks of Columbus; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Bowlin, Ralph Magoun, Alvin Walls, Brian Maier, Bruce Maier, Robert Drouant, and Richard Drouant.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson Street United Methodist Church or a charity of choice preferred.

Verdya Taylor Wiley

JONESVILLE – Funeral services for Kathryn Verdya Taylor Wiley, 91, of Winnfield, La., who died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, La., will be at 2 p.m. Sat. at First Baptist Church with Brother Lloyd Trisler, Dr. Ralph Webber and Brother Marshall Douglas officiatng.

Burial will follow at Graham Cemetery in Nebo, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Rosa Lee “Sister” Smith

April 5, 1928 – Dec. 27, 2006

VIDALIA – Services for Rosa Lee “Sister” Smith, 78, of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.

Burial will follow at Vidalia Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Smith was born April 5, 1928, in Vidalia, the daughter of Olza and Rosie Boyd Cathern.

She was a retired food service technician for Concordia Parish School System and served as a deaconess at Union Baptist Church.

Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Auguster Cathern; one son, Henry Marshall; one daughter, Willie Ruth Smith; one brother, Samuel Cathern.

Survivors include one son, James Smith and his wife, Brenda of Natchez; six daughters, Ollie Washington and her husband, Huey of Missouri City, Texas, Rosie Lee Matchett, Pearl Long and her husband, George, Leatrice Dickens and her husband, Reginald and Mary Smith, all of Vidalia and Jacqueline Smith of Fresno, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Connie Brown Mackey

Nov. 15, 1944 – Dec. 27, 2006

A memorial service for Joy C. “Connie” Brown Mackey, 62, who died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Skaggs Hospital in Branson, Mo., will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Mackey was born Nov. 15, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas.

She graduated from Natchez-Adams High School in 1962 and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. After being employed for several years as a flight attendant with American Airlines, she spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker and devoted mother.

Mrs. Mackey was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Joseph Mackey and her parents, Garlon and Ninette Brown.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Aaron Caddick of Branson, Mo.; a sister, Kathy King of Natchez; an aunt, Melba Foreman of Natchez; two nieces, Kristyn Gray of Missouri City, Texas and Amy DePaula of New Orleans; one great niece and one great nephew.

Memorials may be sent to the Mississippi Division of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 145 Executive Drive, Suite 1, Madison, MS 39110 or the charity of choice.

L. Conway Aubic Jr.

Nov. 1, 1941 – Dec. 27, 2006

VIDALIA – Services for L. Conway Aubic Jr., 65, of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father George Pookkattu officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Aubic was born Nov. 1, 1941, in Natchez, the son of L. Conway Aubic Sr. and Noreen Burns Aubic.

He was a 1959 graduate of Cathedral School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1963. He served in the MS National Guard for six years. He was employed locally for many years in the banking business. He spent a brief time in the Insurance field as well as most recently the tourism industry in the Miss-Lou area.

He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, serving as Past Grand Knight and Past Faithful Navigator. He was a member of the American Legion Post 04, the Audubon Society, the LSU Alumni Association and Louisiana Wildlife Federation. Mr. Aubic was an avid supporter of all Cathedral School and LSU athletic events.

Survivors include a number of aunts, uncles and cousins of the Aubic, Garrity and Burns Families.

Pallbearers will be Jack Aubic V, Joe Garrity, Byron Garrity, Peter Burns Jr., Andy Burns, Patrick Vogt Jr., Pat Burns Jr. and Tim Burns.

Honorary pallbearers will be George C. Murray, Tommy O’Beirne, George Souderes, Prentiss Graves, Ferdie Passbach and Robert Martello.

Memorials may be made to Cathedral School Development Fund, LSU Alumni Association or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Tyre Brackens

WOODVILLE-Services for Mr. Tyre Brackens, 86, of Woodville, who died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church No. 2 with the Rev. Allen Scott officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Rest Cemetery No. 2 under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

J.W. Roberts

NATCHEZ-Services for Mr. J. W. Roberts, 78, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at his residence, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday from Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.

Burial will follow at Arlington Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lieselotte “Lee” Barr

July 30, 1927-Dec. 28, 2006

VIDALIA-Services for Mrs. Lieselotte “Lee” Barr, 79 , of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia with the Rev. Tony Ganey officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barr was born July 30, 1927 in Berlin, Germany.

She was preceded in death by, husband, Billy J. Barr, parents, Mr. and Mrs.Paul Buchert and granddaughter, Michelle Barr.

Survivors include daughter, Betty and husband Tommy Breithaupt of Natchez; 2 sons, Johnny Barr of Petal and Tommy and wife Cheryl Barr of Monterey, La.; 3 granddaughters, Dr. Tracey Breithaupt, Leigh Ann Byrne and Hannah Barr; 5 grandsons, Brandon and wife Tammy Breithaupt, Joey Barr, Tyler Barr, Jacob Barr and Matthew Barr; 3 great-grandsons, Daniel Ziegler, Edwin Byrne and Tate Breithaupt; 2 great-granddaughters, Molly Whitehead and Grace Barr; and special friends, Hallie Siddle and Teresa Ezernack.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Breithaupt, Tyler Barr, Billy Breithaupt, Roger McGraw, James Jordan and Jacob Jordan.

Honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Breithaupt.

Mary Kelly-Davis

FAYETTE-Services for Mrs. Mary Kelly-Davis, 66, of Fayette, who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at River Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg, will be held 11 a.m. Sat. from Hollywood Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Elvis Elie Colenburg Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kelly was born July 2, 1940 in Copiah County the daughter of Fannie Mae Copeland-Kelly and the late Alfred Kelly.

She joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Copiah County early in life. She later untied with Hollywood Baptist Church in Fayette, under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Elvis Elie Colenburg.

She was a member of the Eastern Star Society. Mary was educated at Liddell School in Fayette. She met and married Robert Clarence Kelly, Sr. at an early age. She later married Ellis Davis. She is the mother of 12 children.

She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Percy Kelly and daughter, Patricia Kelly.

Survivors include husband, Ellis Davis; mother, Fannie Mae Kelly both of Fayette; 8 daughters, Crist Hicks and husband Odis of Chicago, Ill., Mary McNealy and husband Carl of Natchez, Kathy Hall, Jerri Stampley, Stephanie Kelly, Sabrina Kelly, Dorran Stringer and husband George and Shaqueritta Kelly of Fayette; 4 sons, Bobby Kelly of Los Angeles, Calif., Kennie Ray Kelly and wife Andrea of Nolanville, Texas, James Kelly of Fayette and Ishmello Kelly of Biloxi; a special son, Jeffrey Knight of Natchez; step-daughter, Aileen Martin of Hazlehurst, Sandra and Lisa Thomas of Jackson; 2 step-sons, Robert Clarence Kelly Jr. and David Kelly of Iowa; 2 sisters, Pearl McGee and husband Louis and Juanita Gaines and husband Wilson of Fayette; 2 brothers, Emmie Kelly of Union Church and Freddie Kelly of Fayette; 7 sisters-in-law, Rita Scott, Joyce Ellis and husband Marion of Harriston, Josie Murphy of South Bend, Ind., Lula Jones and husband Dudley of Dayton, Ohio, Isabel Thomas and husband Mose, Valerie Davis and Vauderie Davis of Fayette; 2 brothers-in-law, John Davis and wife Lorna of Anna, Texas and Andre Davis and wife Cassandra of Lilleen, Texas; 35 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
