Funeral services for Kathryn Verdya Taylor Wiley, 91, of Winnfield, who died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Brother Lloyd Trisler, Dr. Ralph Webber and Brother Marshall Douglas officiating.

Burial will follow at Graham Cemetery in Nebo, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

She was a native of Jonesville and graduated in 1932 from Jena High School, due to the flood at Jonesville where she previously attended. She was also a graduate of Northwestern State University formerly called State Normal College in 1941. She taught sixth grade her first two years at Jena High School and then taught 32 years in Jonesville. When they built a new elementary school, she set up a school library with the help of many friends.

Mrs. Wiley was a member and Sunday School teacher at Jonesville First Baptist church until she moved to Winnfield in 1992, where she became a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wiley was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Wiley; her parents, Brantley and Bertha Taylor; and two brothers, N.B. and Arthur.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Wayne and Barbara Wiley of Winnfield; three grandchildren, Anastasia “Staci,”J.W. Jr. and Kathryn, all of Winnfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Ann Taylor, Emmitt and Doris Taylor, all of Jonesville and Jimmy and Pat Taylor of Gardner; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and former students.

Pallbearers will be her grandson, Jimmy Wayne Wiley Jr. and nephews, Michael Taylor, Drewitt Taylor, Mark Taylor, Dale Taylor, Darryl Taylor, Jason Taylor, Ladd Taylor, Matt Taylor, Drew Taylor, Justin Taylor, Brantley Taylor, Dusty Taylor and Ray Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.B. Coon, James Hutchins and Jimmy Vail.
