Put me in coach, I’m ready to play

Spring in Natchez just got an extra attraction.
For years high school and Dixie Youth baseball have driven the lives of many local residents. Families pack up for the day and head to the ballpark. Lunch comes in the form of a concession stand hot dog, and entertainment comes on the base paths.
Our younger athletes are great. They are the stars of tomorrow for sure, but every once in a while it’s nice to see the older guys play too.
This year, local baseball fans will get that chance as many as 21 times.
Alcorn State’s baseball team has been displaced for at least part of the season while their stadium is under construction. And Adams County benefits.
Scheduling at Chester Willis Field will be tight with three local high schools and ASU, but the extra baseball will be worth the work.
Alcorn will bring visiting teams, families and friends to Natchez where they’ll spend their money, buy their gas and sometimes stay the night.
This is a chance for Natchez to rally around a team, show our support and let Alcorn know they are welcome to play on our field and in our town anytime.
Besides, they’ll be entertaining us and providing inspiration to the aspiring young ballplayers in our town.
On a sunny Saturday in the South there’s no place better than a ballpark.
