Colder temperatures unlikely to bring ‘wintry mix’

Winter weather is here, but the Miss-Lou likely won’t see any of the sleet or snow.
Weekend predictions had the area slated for a “wintry mix,” but those predictions had dissipated by Monday afternoon.
Temperatures did drop drastically though, starting in the 60s, but falling to 40 after dark.
Senior Meteorologist Mike Edmonston, for the National Weather Service in Jackson, said there would not be much of a chance of winter precipitation for Natchez or for Mississippi.
“We’re not really expecting freezing temperatures until (this) morning and the rain will be over in Natchez,” Edmonston said Monday.
If there is precipitation falling this morning, and the temperature is 32 degrees, Edmonston said the Miss-Lou may see some freezing rain.
But with the north winds blowing at 10 to 15 mph today, he said it would definitely be brisk.
With the temperature in the mid-30s, the wind-chill factor will make it feel like the mid-20s, he said.
“Kids will definitely need their coats heading back to school,” Edmonston said.
Today’s high is 40 and the low is 30. Temperatures will remain in the 40s into Wednesday, but warm back into the 50s Thursday. By next Monday, predictions are in the 60s again.
The winter weather moved in from Texas Monday. Much of Texas, Arkansas and northeast Louisiana were under ice storm warnings.
