Services for Vernon A. Wingfield Sr., 97, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. John Larson officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Wingfield was born Nov. 19, 1909, in Brownwood, Texas, the son of Houston Thomas and Ada Townsend Wingfield. He moved to Natchez in 1933 to work on the George W. Cat Dredge Boat with the Corps of Engineers. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alberta Wingfield; eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his sons, Allen Wingfield and wife, Harriette, and Ronny A. Wingfield and wife, Jan, all of Natchez, and Marvin C. Wingfield and wife, Susan E., of New Iberia, La.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Wingfield, Marvin Wingfield Jr., W. Vernon Wingfield, Ryan Wingfield, Charles Mayfield Jr., and Dix Doering.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
