The ACCS Lady Rebels found the right time to get out of their recent scoring slump as they easily defeated the Franklin Academy Lady Cougars Tuesday night in an MPSA District 4-AA game.
Ariana DeLaSalle led all scorers with 19 points. Katie Anne Swinny had 14 points and Laura Guedon added 11 points.
ACCS had its share of offensive woes as of late in a close win at Centreville last Thursday and a 30-plus-point loss at home against Parklane last Saturday.
But on this night, the Lady Rebels got their shots to fall and the Lady Cougars could do little about it — especially in the third quarter.
ACCS (22-5, 3-1) had a 15-6 lead after one quarter of play and increased its lead to 29-17 at halftime. However, the third quarter proved to be the turning point in the game as the Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Cougars 21-4 as they used their full-court press to their advantage.

MAGNOLIA — Not many people would have expected the Lady Wildcats to have a chance to defeat the Lady Eagles in this Region 7-3A game, much less keep it close.
And after South Pike used a 22-11 advantage in the third quarter to take a 37-33 lead, many would have thought that the Lady Eagles would won the game and stayed undefeated in region play.
But something happened along the way – Wilkinson County outscored South Pike 15-9 in the fourth quarter as the Lady Wildcats upset the third-ranked team in Class 3A by two points on the road.
Toni Anthony led Wilkinson County with a game-high 21 points and Tyeshia Lee scored 18 points. And despite have more than twice as many scorers as the Lady Wildcats had, South Pike had just one player score in double figures – Ivielle Stewart with 16 points.
It was without a doubt the biggest win for the Lady Wildcats (10-13, 3-4) this season and a much-needed win as far as the region standings are concerned. As for the Lady Eagles (16-4, 5-1), they wondered how this one got away from them.
Ferriday girls 33, Vidalia 14
VIDALIA — What was a close game in the first half between these District 4-2A and Concordia Parish rivals turned out to be just the opposite in the second half as the Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Vikings in the district opener for both teams.
Ferriday appeared on its way to an easy win after taking a 10-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. But the Lady Trojans went ice cold in the second quarter, scoring just two points. The Lady Vikings took advantage and by halftime they trailed by just two points, 12-10.
Led by Jasmine Upchurch and Jasmine Butler, Ferriday (8-13, 1-0) pulled away in the second half and its defense held Vidalia (2-14, 0-1) to two points in each of the final two quarters.
Upchurch led the Lady Trojans with 11 points and Butler had nine points. Rachael Wagoner led the Lady Vikings with six points.
Huntington boys 72, Chamberlain-Hunt 52
FERRIDAY — Had Chamberlain-Hunt played the first half the way it did the second half, the Wildcats could have made this MPSA District 7-A game a lot more interesting.
Instead, Huntington, Class A’s top-ranked team, jumped out to a big lead and went on to defeat the Wildcats by 20 points to remain undefeated in district play.
Antonio Jordan led Huntington (19-3, 5-0) with 14 points and Zack Brown had 11 points as the Hounds once again had balanced scoring as six players scored at least eight points.
The Hounds’ defense was strong in the first half and especially in the first quarter, when they took a commanding 20-4 lead. They increased their lead to 39-13 at halftime.
Franklin County girls 59, North Pike 35
SUMMIT — Led by Paige Webster, Shareka Hunt and Monea Cameron, the Lady Bulldogs used a 24-8 advantage in the second quarter to open up a huge lead as they rolled to a 24-point win over the Lady Jaguars.
The win was big for Franklin County after No. 3 South Pike was upset by Wilkinson County. The Lady Bulldogs’ win combined with the Lady Eagles’ loss put both teams at 5-1 in region play.
Webster led all scorers with 18 points while Hunt had 16 points and Cameron ended up with 10 points. North Pike dropped to 0-5 in region play.
Salem girls 57, Cathedral 48
NATCHEZ — Tiffany Turner, Lasheika Quinn and Keshaa Peters combined to score 42 points as the Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Green Wave in a Region 7-1A game.
Turner led Salem with 15 points while Quinn added 14 points and Peters chipped in with 13 points. The Lady Wildcats kept Cathedral winless in region play by outscoring them in all four quarters.
Kristian Dobard had an outstanding game in a losing cause as she finished with a game-high 23 points for Cathedral (2-17, 0-5).
Vidalia boys 64, Ferriday 53
VIDALIA — Jeremy Randall scored 21 points and made four of his five three-pointers in the third quarter as the Vikings rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat the Trojans in the District 4-2A opener for both teams.
Brandon Hawkins had 14 points, Gary Stewart added 11 points and Quartrell Thomas contributed with 10 points for Vidalia, which improved to 12-7 overall and 1-0 in district play.
Vikings head coach Robert Sanders said that Randall’s hot shooting from the outside in the third quarter opened up the inside game and was one of the keys to his team’s win.
“In the second half, we played better defense and we made our free throws. In the first half, we missed our free throw and they made theirs,” Sanders said.
Ferriday (11-10, 0-1) outscored Vidalia 20-13 in the second quarter to take a 29-24 halftime lead.
“We kind of lost focus for a while and then we got back on track,” Sanders said.
Matthew Smith scored 14 points and Montrell Tennessee had 13 points to lead the Trojans.
WCCA boys 47, Tallulah Academy 40
