No man is an island, and no business is either.

Shops, industries and businesses are only as strong as the community around them, and their success can hinge on community support.

Smart businessmen and women will work to become a part of their community, to be loved, to be respected.

Delta Biofuel President Clint Vegas took great strides Wednesday to find a place for his business in our community. The Ferriday native has a leg-up, since he already knows our area well, but he still sets a great example for locals and out-of-town folks alike.

Vegas went straight for the heart of a small town, to the movers and shakers, the decision makers — the women.

Vegas invited the members of the Natchez chapter of the Garden Club of America to tour his new biodiesel plant located in the old Ethyl petroleum plant.

Vegas’ interest in getting to know our community and in having our community know him is ideal. His move Wednesday should serve as a model for all prospective companies in the Miss-Lou.

And now that Vegas has extended the first hand it’s time for the community to reach out and welcome Delta Biofuel Inc.

The plant’s facility is currently in the construction phase. Operations are expected to begin in March. The plant will crush soybeans, extract the soy oil and add methanol to create biodiesel and a bi-product, glycerin.
