After not scoring a single point during the entire first half, the Cathedral Lady Green wave fell to Harrisonburg by the final score of 51-12.

The Lady Green Wave defense kept the game relatively close, and Cathedral only trailed 16-0 at the half.

“We are struggling to score right now, no matter what we run,” said Cathedral head coach Kathy Graning. “I am happy we held them to 16 in the first half. Our goal was to hold them to between 40 and 45 points total in the game, and we came close.”

The Lady Green Wave scored their first points of the game when Amanda Richardson, who led the team in scoring with six points, knocked down a shot with 2:45 to play in the third quarter.

But as the Lady Green Wave finally got on the scoreboard, the Lady Bulldogs opened things up offensively as well and scored 17 third quarter points to take a 33-2 lead at the end of the third.

Harrisonburg’s offense continued to be relentless in the fourth quarter. Sloane Jefferson and Tameka Franklin combined to score 10 of the Lady Bulldogs 18 fourth quarter points.

Richardson picked up four more points in the final quarter for the Lady Green Wave, while teammates Alex Nickels, Meghan Zito and Betsy Daggett each scored two points before Cathedral fell to Harrisonburg 51-12 in their non-district, home match up Monday night.

This was the third time the Lady Green Wave has fallen to the Harrisonburg Lady Bulldogs this season.

Graning said her team has not been on track offensively all season.

She said part of the team’s offensive struggles could be in part due to a lack of experience players.

“We are a young team with two seniors who didn’t give up and didn’t quit,” she said.

Graning said her young team has a way to go, but added they are not going to give up, and they are going to continue to work hard on getting better.

With the loss the Lady Green Wave fell to 1-18 overall, and remain 0-6 against district opponents.
