The Huntington Hounds got all they wanted and more from the Trinity Episcopal Saints Tuesday night, but were able to come up with big plays at the right time to net a come-from-behind win.
After trailing throughout the game, a 10-0 run midway through the fourth quarter helped propel the Hounds to a 49-44 win.
“We struggled,” Huntington coach David Boydstun said following the game. “We didn’t shoot well, but we kept fighting and kept working.”
Antonio Jordan and Ricky Dunbar scored 12 points each to lead the Hounds. Most of Dunbar’s points came from the free throw line in the decisive fourth quarter.
The game was markedly different from the two rivals’ first meeting earlier this month, when the Hounds held Trinity to just nine points in the first half en route to a 20-point win at home.
Trinity led throughout, and led by six midway through the final frame before Dunbar took over, scoring eight of the Hounds’ next 10 points to take a 39-35 lead.
Free throw shooting was key, as the Hounds made eight of 10 attempts in the fourth quarter for the win.
“We made a few baskets at the end and we hit our free throws,” Boydstun said. “That was big. We haven’t been doing that.”
Trinity head coach David King said his team simply couldn’t hang with Huntington’s athletic ability.
“They just have athletes,” King said. “They’ve got a great basketball team. I’ve played (Madison-Ridgeland Academy), (Jackson) Prep and Brookhaven and they’ve got better athletes than any of them.”
Stevan Ridley led the Saints with 17 points, most of which came in the first half. Matthew Freeman scored 13.
Trey Corbett also scored in double figures for Huntington with 10 points.

The Lady Saints got an unexpected fight from Huntington Tuesday night, but were able to pull away with solid shooting in a 16-point win.
The Lady Hounds were within reach at 39-34 late in the third quarter, and had an opportunity to pull within three points, but an errant Leslie Wagoner throw gave Trinity the ball, and a three-pointer by Eliza Jones gave Trinity a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter.
Brandy Hall scored 15 points to lead Trinity despite not playing for huge chunks of the game after picking up three early fouls. Jones and Molly Butts scored 14.
Trinity coach Melanie Hall said the Lady Saints had made her proud for their winning effort.
“It was a good win for us,” she said. “Huntington’s always ready to play. Penny (Moak) always does a good job preparing them.
“Sandy Hall was out with a 101-degree fever, Molly Butts has a hurt hip, Brandy Hall was out for chunks of the game with foul trouble, Olivia Walden is fighting the flu and Courtney Timm injured her knee. That just shows a lot about this team. They fought a battle and won.”
Moak said her team simply was unable to take advantage of opportunities.
“(Trinity) shot the ball really well,” Moak said. “We did everything we could to defend them, and when we did good things on defense we weren’t able to come through on the offensive end. We missed a lot of opportunities.”
Wagoner led Huntington with 12 points before fouling out, and Phyllicia Woods and Katie Moak scored nine.
