Police officers arrested a Vidalia man after he allegedly robbed a liquor store on Carter Street early Friday morning.
According to a VPD press release, officers arrested suspect Jurine Matthews, 52, 602 South Oak St., after he allegedly broke in to McDonough’s Package Store at 305 Carter St.
Officers believe the break-in occurred between 12 and 4 a.m. They arrested Matthews at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Owner Pat McDonough said VPD contacted him at 4:45 a.m.
McDonough said $700 worth of damage was done to the front door of the building and $250 worth of liquor was stolen.
The suspect broke in through the front door McDonough said.
“He took a piece of concrete and started banging on the glass and shattered it in a couple of places,” he said Friday afternoon. “He then bent the frame of the door and slid under it. It’s fixed now.”
Vidalia Police Chief Billy Hammers said Matthews was transported to the Concordia Parish jail and no bond has been set.
