The Huntington School Hounds have their sites set on another trip to the state basketball tournament, and with everybody back from last year’s team, they are feeling confident about their chances.

Huntington will begin its sequal attempt against Claiborne Academy at home on today at 7:45 p.m. Hound head coach David Boydstun the Hounds have yet to play Claiborne Academy this season, but Boydstun said he knows Claiborne has some size down low and quick guards.

To combat this Boydstun said the Hounds will do a lot of trapping, pressing and running to disrupt Claiborne’s offense, and added he would like to see club get a lot of scoring out transition offense.

“We feel confident about our chances,” he said. “We feel good abouttaking care of business.”

If the Hounds emerge victorious, they will face the winner of the

Riverdale, Chamberli-Hunt game on Thursday. Both teams Huntington has beaten twice during the regular season.

ACCS facing Amite School Center

The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels will face a familiar foe in the first round of the South State basketball tournament as theytake Amite School Center for the third time this season this afternoon at 4 p.m.

The Lady Rebels have won the two previous match ups during the regular season between the two teams. Lady Rebel head coach Chuck Bauerle said his club plans to press, pick up the game’s tempo and force turnovers.

Bauerle said his team must also maintain their focus, especially during this time of the season.

“This time of year, especially during the first two rounds of the

tournament, it’s one and done,” he said.

To stay focused on the task at hand, Bauerle said his team is going to

take things one game at a time.

“You take them one at a time, but ultimately we’re playing to get to

the final four in South State to advance to the state tournament.”

If the Lady Rebles advance they will face Silliman, who had a first round bye.

Lady Saints pulling out all the stops

The Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints will begin their South State run

against Riverdale on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Huntington

School.

This will be the first time the two teams have faced each other this

season, but Lady Saint head coach Melanie Hall said both teams are

similar. She said Riverdale has three strong perimeter players as well

as good shooters and good rebounders.

Hall said her team must play hard, and will use their bread and butter

defense to try to create an advantage.

“We will pull out all the stops and do what we have to do,” she said.

“We feel like if we stick to our game plan, play hard and smart and

have fun we will be fine.”

Injuries have not made the post-season road a smooth one for the Lady

Saints. With a center out for the remainder of the season due to an

injured ACL, and a few players that are not 100 percent, the Lady

Saints will have to step things up in the first round. Despite the

injuries, Hall said her team is solely focused on their first round

game.
