The Lady Rebels of ACCS were in position to take a win throughout their game against Delta Academy Tuesday, but were unable to find the momentum in a six-point loss.
The 53-47 Lady Raider win in the opening round of the MPSA Class AA State Tournament at Brookhaven Academy ended the Lady Rebels’ (31-11) season.
After taking a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, several second quarter three-pointers put Delta Academy up at halftime.
“We gave up too many threes in the first half,” ACCS head coach Chuck Bauerle said. “They hit five or six in the first half. I won’t say we went to sleep on them, but we had a lot of chances. We had them right there several times, but we had a couple turnovers and a couple different bounces of the ball and it might’ve been different.”
Bliss Gurley of Delta led all scorers with 22 points. Michelle Guedon led ACCS with 12 points, and Ariana DeLaSalle scored 11.
To begin the second half, Guedon got hot, hitting three three-pointers in a matter of minutes to give ACCS the lead back at 35-33 with three minutes to go in the third quarter. It was the last time they would lead the game.
Despite the loss, Bauerle said he was happy with his team’s finish to the season.
“We were tickled to be here,” Bauerle said. “This was about as far as a lot of us expected to go. Anything beyond this would’ve just been icing on the cake.”
The Lady Raiders will take on Brookhaven Academy Friday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. in the second girl’s semifinal.
