Saints advance to semifinals

Trinity Episcopal advanced to the Class A semifinals and qualified for the Overall Tournament with a dominating defensive effort in a win over Sharkey Issaquena Academy Wednesday night.
The Saints took a 40-17 win over the Confederates by shutting down Seth Brown, who averages 25 points per game, and holding him to just eight points.
After a close first quarter, the Saints took control in the second, outscoring Sharkey-Issaquena 14-2 to take a 22-9 lead into the locker room.
Both teams scored just five in the third quarter, but the Saints owned the fourth with a 13-3 advantage for the 40-17 win.
Jon Davis King led Trinity with 14 points. Stevan Ridley scored nine and Matthew Freeman pitched in eight.
Brown led the Confederates, and Steven Cooper pitched in seven points.
With the win, the Saints will play in the first boys semi-final Friday at 6 p.m. Their opponent will be determined today.
