Services for John Robert “Bob” Rayne Sr., who died Tues., Feb. 27, 2007, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Old Church of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gold Room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home in Houston.
Mr. Rayne was born in Baton Rouge on Nov. 4, 1930, the son of Selene and Stanford Rayne.
After graduating from University High School, he earned a petroleum engineering degree from Louisiana State University.
He then served his country for two years as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. It was during this time that he met his wife, Ann Bronn of Natchez. He cherished and adored Ann, their six children and all of their grandchildren.
After receiving his master’s degree in petroleum reservoir engineering from LSU, he spent his entire professional life in the petroleum industry as a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas. He was a long-term member of the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts, serving as the president of the Corpus Christi chapter. He also became a Legion of Honor member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He retired from both Exxon Corporation and Kerr-McGee. He was active in the community, serving on the school board of Calallen Independent School District, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mr. Rayne richly blessed the lives of all who knew him with his kindness, patience and great sense of humor. He will be remembered by colleagues, friends and family as a loving man of outstanding moral integrity and strong Christian values.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irma Rayne Tomberlin.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ann; his children and grandchildren, Katherine Schneider and husband, Charles, Dr. F. S. Bronn Rayne, his wife, Cindy, and their children, Renee and Alyssa, Dr. Margaret Elizabeth Rayne, Selena Hooper and husband, Tim, John R. Rayne Jr. and wife, Karen, and their children, Lauren and Christine, Rebecca Rose and husband, Bill and their children, William, Christopher and Katherine; brother, Stanford Rayne, Jr. and wife Helen; sister, Katherine V. Rayne; nephew, Brion Tomberlin and wife, Diane; cousin, Huck Mahier and wife Maria Teresa.
