Three resignations in the last two weeks have sent ripples throughout the Miss-Lou, as ACCS is looking for a football coach while Ferriday searches for coaches on the gridiron and the hardwood.

Rebel football coach Bobby Marks retired two weeks ago, and Trojan football coach James McFarland and basketball coach James Davis resigned to take different positions.

With the end of the school year not too far away, ACCS is looking to have a coach hired in the next two to three weeks.

“We’ve got (advertisements) on the MPSA (Web site),” ACCS headmaster John Gray said. “We’re looking to wrap up taking applications (today), but they may extend it to Monday. We’re going to try to get it down to the top three or four candidates to interview. We’ve had approximately 15 applicants.”

A search committee comprised of Dr. Frank Guedon, Brenda Vines, Bryant Murray and one member to be determined will help whittle down the candidates, along with former head coach Marks.

Guedon said the Rebels were looking for stability after running through a number of coaches since Marks’ first retirement in 1993.

“We’re looking for someone that can build a program,” Guedon said. “A younger guy that can take over and help us build an athletic program. We want to bring some stability to our program.”

In Ferriday, principal Michelle Bethea will lead the search for the football and basketball coaches, but she could not be reached for comment.

Concordia Parish Superintendent Dr. Kerry Laster said the district is actively searching for qualified candidates.

“No decisions have been made,” Laster said. “They will advertise both locally and nationally. That will occur sometime at the end of next week.”

On the basketball search, however, Ferriday will have the assistance of its former head coach.

Davis, who will take over the reins at Ferriday Junior High School at the end of the month, said he expects to assist in finding the right man to take over the Trojans’ basketball program.

“Most likely I’m going to be on the interview process,” Davis said. “We’re going to look for the right candidate with the right qualities we’re looking for. We’re going to sit down and come to the right consensus and choose the right guy to lead the program.”
