Natchez native Jayne Buttross was chosen as 2006 Mississippi Wildlife Federation Volunteer of the year. Buttross is an attorney practicing in Jackson.

“Jayne has truly been an outstanding volunteer this year, giving of her time, talents, expertise, resources and constant support to the Mississippi Wildlife Federation,” said Cathy Shropshire of the federation.

“In addition to volunteering at events, Jayne helped us wade through the political process on wetlands and climate issues and guided us through the copyright process and procedures.”

Shropshire said Buttross contacted legislators concerning issues of importance to MWF and helped craft the agency’s five-year strategic plan and set direction for the coming year’s activities.

“As board representative for the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Nature Preservation Society, Jayne is a strong advocate for wildlife and the habitat they require,” Shropshire said. “Her advocacy is not limited to Mississippi. She took the MWF message to Ecuador with her this fall where she tried to recruit on a global basis.”

Buttross is the daughter of Pete and Waddad Buttross of Natchez.
