Good news ushers in new month

We welcomed March, and hopefully spring, last week. Let’s review some of the good news of the week:

– The mere idea that your trash could save someone’s life is one that doesn’t often cross our minds.

But through the work of the local TRIAD group, cell phones otherwise ready for the trash are becoming lifesavers.

The group has been collecting old cell phones, having them programmed to call only 911 and handing them out to senior adults.

It’s that kind of thinking that makes our community a better place in which to live.

– The future scientists, and doctors, lawyers and teachers, at Trinity Episcopal School once again stole the show at the state Science Olympiad. The group of middle school students medaled in every category and brought home the overall title.

These students are learning hands-on science, under the direction of teacher Stephanie Daly, and it is wonderful to see students learning from more than just a textbook.

– It is 2007, after all, and the tax assessor’s office is now on board in the technology age. A new geographical information system will help the county map itself from above.

Aerial county maps will be available by computer for county employees and residents to use.

Weather predictions for the coming week are calmer than the last; let’s hope the days to come are bright and sunny for us all.
