Sheriff’s deputies seized thousands of dollars worth of drugs and arrested a Roxie man Monday on charges of possession of marijuana and crack cocaine with intent to distribute Tuesday.
Deputies chased Cleveland Ezell Wilson, 36, 11 Pheasant Road, Roxie, Monday and arrested him after they found marijuana and crack cocaine in the vehicle he was driving, according to Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Deputies seized 98.2 grams of marijuana, worth approximately $600 on the street, and 19.8 grams of crack cocaine, worth nearly $4,000, Sheriff Ronny Brown said Tuesday.
The crack cocaine was found in the form of a compressed disk or “cookie.”
“That’s a lot of crack cocaine,” Brown said. “It was a pretty good quantity to get off the street.
Wilson was charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance, crack cocaine, with intent to distribute; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; careless driving; no driver’s license and failure to yield to blue lights and siren.
Wilson nearly hit a deputy driving a patrol car on U.S. 61 North, according to the report. The deputy turned on his lights and siren, but Wilson did not stop. When he pulled into a parking lot, the deputy frisked him and found a bag of marijuana in Wilson’s pocket.
Deputies also found “three more large bags of marijuana and one large crack cocaine cookie,” according to the report.
According to the report, a woman and her 10-year-old daughter were passengers in the car.
Because a child was in a vehicle along with the suspected drugs, Brown said that portion of the case would be turned over to the Department of Human Services.
As of Tuesday, no bond had been set for Wilson.
Before Monday’s arrest, Wilson was out of jail on a previous drug charge, Brown said.
“So, we’re holding him, trying to keep him in jail without bond and maybe keep him off the street,” Brown said.
