Block baseball tops Monterey

After a few miscues allowed Monterey to get back in the game, Block head coach Scott Green had a talk with his players at the end of the fourth inning.
Apparently, his players listened as the Bears scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning to blow the game wide open as they ended up defeating the Wolves 14-3 Tuesday night.
“The third and fourth innings we kind of went to sleep,” Green said. “I talked with them about hitting the ball and playing defense. All we had to was hit the ball and play some defense.”
Block (5-4) batted around in the top of the fifth and ended up sending 15 players to the plate. The Bears had seven of their 12 hits during their half of the inning. They also laid down three sacrifice bunts while Monterey committed two errors.
“It was just Murphy’s Law. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong,” Monterey head coach Hank Zizzi said. “They made the plays. We gave them seven outs (in the top of the fifth).”
Casey Ryan had an outstanding game for Block both on the mound and at the plate.
“He did really well. We struck out seven and walked just one,” Green said. “Casey pitched a whale of a game. He helped himself at the plate with two RBIs.”
“We just couldn’t really get anything going,” Zizzi said. “We didn’t throw. We didn’t hit. We didn’t field the ball.”
Evan White led the Bears’ offense by going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Justin Winborne was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Ethan Trisler was 2-for-4 with a double and scored four runs.
Block scored one run in the top of the first and then added three runs in the top of the third for a 4-0 lead. But Monterey (2-6) took advantage of several errors to cut the lead to just one run, 4-3, at the end of the fourth inning.
