Crosby native running for national title

Crosby native Bridget Foreman has had plenty of success in her four years on the track & field team at Mississippi College, but there was one thing she hadn’t done: qualify for nationals in indoor track.
This year, she did it.
The senior will compete in the 55-meter dash today at the NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.
She also qualified last week at Jackson State for the outdoor nationals for the third consecutive year.
“One of my goals was to qualify for indoor nationals this year,” Foreman said. “I’m glad I succeeded. I was excited.
“Division III is bigger, at least in schools, than Division I and II,” she said. “This is girls from all over the country, from California to New York. Being one of the top 16 girls competing is an awesome feeling.”
Foreman has rewritten the Choctaw record books in track, becoming the first female to qualify for nationals in school history. She also holds the record in the 100- and 200-meters.
“I’ve enjoyed (my time in college) a lot,” she said. “(Being the first to qualify for nationals) is a really good feeling, because I did it my freshman year. I think that’s really successful.”
The Amite School Center graduate wasn’t sure if her collegiate career would hold so much success when she embarked for Clinton in 2003.
“When I came out of high school I had just came out of knee surgery,” she said. “I was really nervous about it. I wasn’t sure if I could adapt to the college level.
“But we compete against Division I schools all the time. We rarely compete against Division II schools. Seeing that I can actually compete with them, it’s an awesome feeling.”
Foreman said her main goal is to finish in the top eight.
“Top eight is All-American status,” she said. “I’ve accomplished a lot, but I want to go for more and that’s what I think the big thing is — to get top eight. The 55-meter dash is all about quickness and getting out of the blocks. I want to come out of the blocks and come out strong. I think I have a good shot at it.”
