In the first game of a doubleheader, Johnny Williams held the Cowboys to just three hits, Cameron Logan went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and Desmond Smoot had a triple as the Bulldogs held on for a 6-3 win.
Held on because Humphreys County scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Natchez High’s lead to 4-3. But the Bulldogs responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth.
The second game didn’t turn out the same for Natchez High (7-5) as the Simmons Blue Devils jumped on Bulldogs pitcher Thomas Hughes for five runs in the first three innings, including three in the bottom of the third.
Logan ended with providing much of the Bulldogs’ offense in this game by going 2-for-3 with a triple. Simmons pitcher Ted Washington pitched five shutout innings before giving up three runs in the top of the sixth.
