The ACCS Rebels used timely hitting and strong relief pitching to come from behind to take an 8-6 win over Simpson Academy Wednesday.

The Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and led 4-3 after four innings after a two-run Ryan Herrington home run.

But the Rebels were able to come back with a three-run sixth inning.

Luke Brumfield led off the inning with a double, and after Brian Sanderson reached on an error Austin Weeks drove in Brumfield to tie the game. Eric Perry then singled to drive in Sanderson, and Weeks scored on a fielders choice.

The Rebels then got insurance runs with a two-out, two-run single by Weeks in the top of the seventh.

Ryan Goddard got the win on the mound for ACCS in two-thirds of an inning of work. Josh Calcote picked up the save with two innings.

ACCS coach Ron Rushing said he was excited to see his team have such a clutch performance.

“We’ve been getting a lot of runners on early but not driving them in,” he said. “But we got some timely hits (today). We’re finding that mix. Collin Dollar and Josh Calcote stepped up. Hopefully we’re hitting our stride before district starts.”

Herrington took the loss for Simpson.

The Rebels pounded out 14 hits on the night. Brumfield batted 3-for-4 with a double, Weeks was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Dustin Carrolll was 2-for-3, T.J. Johnson was 2-for-4 and Ryan Comer was 2-for-2.

Herrington led Simpson at the plate by batting 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.

The win in the Parklane Spring Break Tournament improved the Rebels to 5-5 on the season.
