The packed field of 100 golfers enjoyed a sunny round of golf as the 14th annual Chamber Golf Scramble was in full swing Thursday afternoon at Beau Pré Country Club.

“We had a great turnout, perfect weather and very generous contributions from generous donors for door prizes and goodie bags,” Lindy Cardneaux of the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce.

Cardneaux said the 100-person field is the maximum amount of players allowed and the tournament normally draws that many, but this year’s player limit was met much earlier than in the past.

She thinks the addition of corporate tees helped fill up the tournament field so fast. Cardneaux said the corporate tees were a new addition to this year’s scramble, and it helped bring the businesses out.

Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce Chairman Pat Biglane said he was very pleased with the way the tournament went, and with Leadership Natchez raising $1,335 for Pleasant Acre Elementary School.

Leadership Natchez sponsored the16th hole.

Biglane said he hopes this year’s scramble is just as successful as last year’s tournament, if not better.

“This tournament is always a great opportunity for business of and around Natchez to come together to network and talk about the good things that are going on in Natchez,” he said.

The Delta Bank team of Bob Flurry, Orvelle Jones, Dan Bland and Hurbert Erwin took top honors by shooting a 54 in the four-man scramble. The Natchez Community Hospital team of Lloyd Trisler, Dr. Rick Jeansonne, Dr. Kofi Kumi and Bill McKenzie shot a 55 to take second place, and Jeff Buckhalter, Wesley Rodgers, Bucky Merritt and Alex Whittington combined to shoot a 56, which was good enough for third.

Following the third place finish, Buckhalter said his team excelled above and beyond expectation. He also said the great condition of the course added to the good times. Others had a good time as well.

“It was a good tournament, and I had a great time,” Pat Hinson said after finishing his round. “I will play in it again next year.”
