Despite giving up nine hits, four of them doubles, and ending with just five hits of their own, the Saints somehow, someway held on for a 7-6 win over the Trojans in an MPSA District 7-A game Friday night at Chester Willis Field.
Matthew Freeman and winning pitcher Matt Barnes provided much of the offense for Trinity. Freeman had a triple while Barnes went 2-for-4 with a double.
The Saints trailed 2-1 after an inning and a half before scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning and just like that they were ahead 6-2. The Trojans cut the lead to 6-4 with one run in the top of the third and one run in the top of the fifth.
Trinity (3-3, 1-1) scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Tallulah Academy scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t come up with the big hit when it needed to.
Darren Lott and losing pitcher Cason Landrem each went 2-for-3 with a double while Owen Clark was 3-for-4 for the Trojans.
