A nighttime photograph of Dunleith in Natchez won first place in a National Park Service annual photography contest featuring National Historic Landmarks. Mississippi photographer Ken Murphy of Bay St. Louis made the photograph.
This is the fourth year of the contest. During a one-week voting period, more than 800 National Park Service employees cast their votes to choose the 2006 Imaging Our National Heritage, National Historic Landmarks photo contest winners.
John Holyoak, manager of Dunleith properties, said he was pleased for the publicity the contest win brings to Natchez.
“I believe it is another example of Natchez being recognized with all the other great destinations across America,” Holyoak said. “With all our wonderful National Historic Landmarks, Natchez could be recognized every year in this competition.”
For the third year, the historic landmarks program worked with the National Natural Landmarks Program in a parallel contest.
Winning photographs will be featured in photo contest calendars. Information on the contest is available on the following Web links: http://www.nps.gov/nero/nhlphoto/southeast.htm; and http://www.nps.gov/nero/nhlphoto/.
