Cable McMinn’s two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning helped get things going for the Bulldogs as they steamrolled past the Eagles in five innings Tuesday night in a Region 7-3A match-up.

McMinn’s home run was key in Franklin County (10-6, 5-2) scoring four runs in the bottom of the first and the Bulldogs never looked back.

South Pike scored two runs in the top of the third inning to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 5-2, but the home team responded with four runs in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bulldogs ended the game early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth and they finished with 10 hits while Ben McDowell held the Eagles to just three hits.

Jordan Hunt and Matt Lofton each had a triple and Dane Hodges went 2-for-4 with a double.

Tallulah Academy 12, Tensas Academy 0

ST. JOSEPH — Tallulah Academy got six innings of two-hit ball from Casey Landrum as the Trojans 10-run ruled the Chiefs in six innings Tuesday afternoon in an MPSA District 7-A game.

In a game involving two teams trying to get their first win in district play, Tallulah broke open a close game by scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Actually, the Trojans’ first run of the game in the top of the first was all Landrum needed as mowed down batter after batter. The remaining 11 runs they scored was a bonus.

The big hit for the Trojans was a grand slam home run by sophomore David Duncan in the top of the sixth. That allowed the game to end an inning early. While Tallulah only ended up with six hits, it took advantage of three errors by Tensas (1-7, 0-3).

Silliman 9, Centreville 6

CLINTON, La. — In the span of a half of an inning, the Tigers’ 6-1 lead was gone. Just like that. That’s because their defense fell apart and the Wildcats took advantage, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 8-6 lead en route to the win in MPSA District 5-AA action.

Centreville (3-8, 0-1) trailed Silliman 1-0 at the end of the first inning until the Tigers one run in the top of the second, three in the top of the third and two in the top of the fourth.

But once Silliman rallied to take the lead, the Tigers never recovered as they couldn’t score a single run in the final three innings while the Wildcats added a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Josh Lanehart pitched well in a losing effort as he went all six innings for Centreville and struck out nine batters. Cameron Gentry overcame those shaky three innings and ended going all seven and he hit a home run.
