Two men were shot in Ferriday Wednesday night, one reportedly critically wounded.
The incident occurred at Concordia Apartments on Kyle Street at roughly 7:53 p.m.
Two men were shot and wounded in the parking lot, Ferriday Police Chief Richard Madison said.
The two victims had the last name of Butler, but Madison said he did not know their first names.
Police have a suspect, Madison said, but no arrests had been made as of press time.
One man was in a vehicle and the other was getting out of the vehicle when a man shot at them, hitting one in the upper arm and the other in the finger, Madison said.
One of the victims’ girlfriends was in the car, as well as two children, Madison said. The woman and the children were not harmed, he said.
The shooting was a continuation of a 2 p.m. altercation earlier that day on Doty Road, when a group of people, including one of the shooting victims, jumped the suspect, Madison said.
The altercation continued Wednesday evening when the suspect reportedly shot the two men.
The two victims were transported to Riverland Medical Center in Vidalia. One may have been taken to another medical facility, Madison said.
About 20 people gathered in the Riverland parking lot Wednesday night. Relatives of one of the victims, Derrick Butler, 29, would not give details.
Hospital officials said one victim had been released from the hospital.
They would not confirm that the second victim was also being treated at the hospital.
Madison said his office was investigating the case.
The shooting comes a week after a 16-year-old boy allegedly killed his parents and another boy.
“(Violence) doesn’t benefit anyone,” Madison said. “We’ve had enough of that over the past few days. I hope they will let the police do our jobs.”
