One key hit in the bottom of the fourth inning by Ashley Greer and four walks in the bottom of the fifth were critical in Enterprise’s 10-3 win over upset-minded Cathedral Thursday night in a Division 7-1A game.
“It was a great game. We were close with them. We were tied with them at one point,” Cathedral head coach Pam Clayton said. “We pretty much held our own. I think they played well against the level of competition.”
Enterprise took a 2-0 lead after two innings of play and still had a two-run advantage at the end of the third inning. Keyed by a solo home run by Megan Whittington, Cathedral tied the game at 3-3 by scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Unfortunately for the Lady Green Wave, they would score no more runs the rest of the game while the Lady Yellow Jackets would take command.
Greer’s second double of the game brought in two runs as Enterprise scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-3 lead. Then Cathedral pitcher Mae Durkin ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth and Enterprise took advantage.
“We had four base on balls and all four runs scored,” Clayton said. “Our pitcher started getting tired. We’ve got to have some pitching. The defense did great despite the six errors.”
Whittington as well as Betsy Daggett went 2-for-4 for Cathedral (0-3 in Division 7-1A) while Greer was 2-for-3 for Enterprise.
