Menard torches Block Friday night

Block head coach Scott Green returned to Menard, the school he recently coached at, to take on the Eagles Friday afternoon in a non-district game.
As Green knows, Menard has been known to have one of the best baseball programs in the state and has been one of the top contenders for the Class 2A state championship.
And Block found out firsthand how good this year’s Eagles team is as the No. 1 team in Class 2A scored 13 runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to an 18-3 win over the Bears in four innings.
Even though Menard improved to 13-7, an unusual record for a top-ranked team, all of the Eagles’ losses have been to Class 4A and 5A competition.
“We hit the ball well. Nearly everything we hit went for extra bases,” Green said.
Unfortunately, the Bears couldn’t produce enough offense to stay with the Eagles.
Block’s three runs came in the top of the fourth inning as Evan White and Justin Winborne hit back-to-back doubles and Derek Adams followed with a three-run home run.
Jordan Marks started the scoring for Menard with a line drive home run in the bottom of the first that was hit so hard that the ball went through the scoreboard. Marks went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.
Casey Juneau was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and Alex Williams was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
Even though the final score was so lopsided, the hits were nearly even. Menard finished with nine hits while Block (5-9) had seven hits.
Tallulah Academy 8, WCCA 6
TALLULAH, La. — Brandon Beard’s two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 6-6 tie and proved to be the game-winning hit as the Trojans defeated the Rams Friday afternoon in an MPSA District 7-A game.
WCCA (6-8, 1-2) scored one run in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead, which the Rams kept until the bottom of the fourth inning when Tallulah scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead.
The next inning and a half went back and forth. The Rams scored two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4, only to see the Trojans retake the lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. But the Rams answered in the top of the fifth to tie the game.
WCCA out-hit Tallulah (2-1 in District 7-A) nine to eight, but eight errors by the Rams proved to be costly. Joseph Harvey and Brennan Bush each went 2-for-3 for the Rams while Beard was 2-for-4 for the Trojans.
