Cathedral head coach Ken Beesley knew Monday night’s Region 7-1A game with Enterprise would be a big one.

In a match-up involving the division-leading Green Wave and the third-place Yellow Jackets, McDonough delivered with his first no-hitter of the season to go with 12 strikeouts as the Green Wave took an 11-0 win in six innings.

And if that wasn’t enough, McDonough faced the minimum number of batters in the six-inning contest.

“We didn’t say much about it (no-hitter) in the dugout,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “Once we got through the fourth inning and we knew it wasn’t close, we started talking about it.”

Cathedral (13-4, 5-0) scored two runs each in the top of the second and third innings and then scored three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. The Green Wave scored four runs in the top of the sixth and McDonough retired the side in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

“He walked a batter in the fifth inning, but we turned a double play,” Beesley said.

While Enterprise could do nothing against McDonough, the Green Wave pounded out 12 hits of their own. David Ozburn, Daniel Jenkins and Cole Junkin each went 2-for-4 with a double.
