A two-run home run by Mary Katherine Golden in the bottom of the third inning broke a 3-3 tie as the Vidalia Lady Vikings defeated the Jena Lady Giants 8-4 Tuesday afternoon.
Golden’s home run gave Vidalia a lead they would never give up in the final four innings of play. She also had another key hit in the game – a two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning as the Lady Vikings turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead.
Jena (12-13) score its final run of the game in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 5-4 game, but Katlyn Wilson’s two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth gave Vidalia (17-8) some much-needed breathing room.
Golden ended going 3-for-3 and Wilson was 2-for-3 to lead Vidalia, which finished with nine hits in the game. Stringer led Jena at the plate as she went 3-for-4 and Deana Poole was 2-for-4 with a home run.
