MANGHAM, La. — While scouts were watching Mangham pitcher Allen Williams, Vidalia pitcher Will Thomas stole the show Thursday night as he pitched a complete game, three-hitter as the Vikings stunned the Dragons 4-0.
“We got some key hits. It was a heck of a high school baseball match-up,” Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir said. “Thomas had good command tonight. He won the battle of the pitchers.”
It was a big win for a Vidalia, especially considering that Williams is being heavily recruited by several Division I schools. Hoffpauir even said that there were a couple of scouts at the game to see what kind of stuff Williams has.
Vidalia (14-9), ranked No. 16 in Class 1A, was led by Jordan Brewer, who went 2-for-4, and Cameron Ainsworth, who was 2-for-3.
“It was a team effort,” Hoffpauir said.
Mangham, the fifth-ranked team in all of Class 3A, fell to 16-7 with the loss.
