With crunch time in the LHSAA softball season approaching, the Vidalia Lady Vikings will welcome seven teams for a tournament this weekend.
With three games set for today beginning at 4 p.m. and nine more set for Saturday, the Vidalia Tournament promises to be action-packed.
“We have high expectations,” Vidalia head coach Jeannie Hall said. “We’re in a bracket with some good teams, which is what I wanted being this close to the playoffs. All three teams in our bracket have beat us, but to get better you have to beat better teams.”
Vidalia’s bracket will feature LaSalle, Caldwell and Warren Central. The other bracket will consist of Monterey, Mangham, Harrisonburg and Rayville.
Hall said the tournament would have plenty for everyone to do.
“We have tournament T-shirts, hamburgers, chicken strips, French fries, hot dogs, nachos, chips, pickles, candy and snow cones, which is new, compliments of the Jerry Roberts family,” she said. “We will have a raffle going on and we’ve got lots of things to raffle off. They can buy tickets while they’re here.”
Admission will be $3 for children under 12, and $5 for those older than 12.
Hall said she hoped the Lady Vikings (17-8-1) would use the tournament to get ready for the playoffs.
“Hopefully, we can put our offense, defense and pitching together towards the end of the year. Of course, it’d be great to win our own tournament. I do have confidence in this team. We’ve definitely gotten better since we (first) played these teams. I hope we have a great crowd. It always helps to have the home fans cheering you on.”
