Franklin County keeps on winning

In an effort to get the game in before the rain arrived, Saturday’s game between the McComb Tigers and the Franklin County Bulldogs was pushed back two hours to 11 a.m.
It didn’t seem to bother Franklin County as to what time the game was going to be played as the Bulldogs rallied from an early 5-3 deficit to defeat the Tigers 8-6 to push their winning streak to an amazing 13 games.
Pitcher Ben McDowell overcame a shaky second inning in which he gave up four runs with four straight scoreless innings. When McDowell wasn’t on the mound, he and his Bulldog teammates made sure their winning streak would not come to an end on this day.
“Ben pitched good. It was a very good day for him,” Franklin County head coach Jeremy Loy said. “He came up big for us and helped us extend our winning streak.”
McDowell struck out seven while scattering seven hits, most of them in the second inning, and walking just one batter. He ended up with the win and his pitching made up for seven errors.
Offensively, Franklin County (16-6) got off to a good start as it scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Trailing 5-3, the Bulldogs got a big solo home run from Cable McMinn in the bottom of the third, which not only cut the lead to one, but also swung the momentum back in their favor.
The Bulldogs then took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Ratcliff, who went 3-for-3, hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth as they increased their lead to 8-5.
McDowell also helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a double and John Paul Sullivan was 2-for-3 with a double.
