The Cathedral Green Wave is preparing for a big week of district baseball action, beginning today at Chester Willis Field against Enterprise.

Currently the Green Wave is 15-4 overall and 7-0 in district play, holding the top spot in the league.

Enterprise holds the three spot, while Saint Aloysius, whom Cathedral will face Wednesday, is in second place in the district.

“Right now we are in the driver’s seat. We just have to take care of business, and if we do that, we will host the post season district tournament,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said.

With the Green Wave bats swinging well, Beesley said he feels good heading into this week.

“I feel we are ready to face the competition we are going to see this week,” he said. “Hopefully we will play well.”

Preston Edwards will get the start on the mound today against Enterprise, while Patrick McDonough, who has only given up one earned run all season, will take the mound against St. Aloysius.

Beesley said St. Aloysius must beat the Green Wave by more than five runs to take the lead in the district.

ACCS preparing for Riverfield

Adams County Christian School is preparing for a home showdown against Riverfield on Tuesday and a double header against Riverfield on the road on Thursday.

ACCS head coach Ron Rushing said he did not know a whole lot about Riverfield.

“In the past they heave been a scrappy bunch that has swing the bats well,” he said.

Rushing said his team must remain focused, and take at least two out of three in the series.

“For us nothing changes here on out. We can not lose a series,” he said.

Rushing said confidence is high heading into this week.

Defensively, he said his team worked on the basics in practice this week, and said his players responded well.

At the plate, the Rebels had 28 hits in their last double header.

“Our bats came alive this week, and hopefully we can keep it going,” Rushing said.

Following Riverfield, the Rebels will travel to play Huntington on Saturday.

Vidalia softball tournament rained out

As a result of the rain this past weekend, the Vidalia softball tournament was cut short, and Monday’s game against Franklin County has been cancelled.

“We are not making up the tournament,” Vidalia head coach Jeannie Hall said. “We are just going to move on.”

The Lady Vikings will next face Franklin parish on Tuesday and Jena on Thursday, and with an 18-9 overall record, hall said she has been satisfied up to this point.

“I’m satisfied in a way, but we had some close games early on that could have gone either way,” she said.

As far as playoffs go, the Lady Vikings are automatically in because there is no district, but Hall said this is the last season for that.

“I am excited about having a district next year,” Hall said. “It will give us something to strive for.”
