Vidalia Garden Club to make over building

Visitors to Louisiana are going to be greeted by a fresh-faced welcome center, thanks to the Vidalia Garden Club.
The club — now in its second year — has selected a site in Vidalia for beautification through its community facelift program. This year’s location is the Tourist Information Center on U.S. 84.
“We chose this location because it would have the most impact, because it was where we felt it was most needed,” said Dolly Smith, a facelift committee member.
The group has already done some work on the site by removing some bushes and trimming others.
They have also washed the building with bleach to prepare it to receive a new coat of paint.
“We will be painting the columns in the front of the building, spreading mulch in the flowerbeds and planting new flowers,” Smith said.
The building was chosen by a vote of garden club members, committee member Gene Smith said.
Club members made nominations for the project, and local businesses were given a chance to nominate themselves for a facelift.
The group will begin work at 10 a.m. next Friday.
