Miss-Lou gears up for weekend

Despite predicted cooler temperatures, the Miss-Lou will be in full spring festival mode this weekend.

The annual Vittles and Fiddles festival kicked off Friday night and continues all day today at the Vidalia River View RV Park.

Gates will open at 8:30 a.m. today. Admission is $5. Money raised will go to the fire department.

A variety of bands will play throughout the day, with a short break at 6 p.m. The event ends at 11 p.m. Performers include L&M Band, McCall Creek, Southland, Flatland Brush and the Harrigill Family.

A gumbo cook-off will begin at 7 a.m., with judging at noon.

Gates will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for the Spring Flea Market on the Vidalia Riverwalk.

The event will be similar to the flea market during each year’s balloon races.

The market will be in the grassy area north of the bridge.

Between 35 and 40 vendors are scheduled to attend. Vendors will be selling antiques, crafts, glass, junk, tools, pottery, ironwork, hardware, jewelry and toys.

In Natchez, the annual Historic Jefferson College Spring Flea Market will start at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

A free concert by Henry Turner Jr. and Flavor will go from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the flea market. The band’s Louisiana Reggae/Funk style is a mixture of contemporary and ethnic rhythms.

The Adams County Master Gardeners will have their annual Spring Plant Sale and an all-day free garden workshop on the Jefferson College grounds.

Co-Lin’s Phi Beta Lambda students will be selling food at the festival. Activities for children will also be available.

Other weekend events include:

A spring fashion show at Frazier Primary School at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public.

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s ninth annual Hat and Fashion Show will be at 11 a.m. at the Isle of Capri Hotel. A $12 donation is required.
