Colin Doré hit a two-run single as the Rams scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a tie ball game and eventually defeat the Trojans in District 7-A action Friday night.
Winning pitcher Sutton Olive went the distance and had an outstanding performance on the mound, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out four and walking none.
The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth after Tallulah Academy scored what ended up being its final run of the game in the top of the fourth.
Brennan Bush led off WCCA’s half of the fourth inning with a single, which was followed by a walk and a fielder’s choice. Joseph Harvey grounded out to second and that brought in Bush with the go-ahead run.
Then with the bases loaded, George Davis was hit by a pitch and Darryl Higgins scored to make it a 4-2 game. Then Doré stepped up and singled to bring in two runs and the Rams took a 6-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Zach Pourciau doubled in a run and later scored on a single by Higgins. Pourciau went 2-for-3 and Doré was 2-for-4.
WCCA (9-11) improved to 4-2 in district play with two games remaining – Tuesday at Trinity and a make-up game at home against first-place Huntington Thursday. Both games start at 7 p.m. WCCA’s junior varsity and varsity games at home against Oak Forest, which were to take place Friday, have been cancelled.
