Lady Bears top Lady Crusaders

Sarah McEntyre and Jennifer Squyres had key hits for Block in its Class 1A bi-district round game against Christian Life Academy.

McEntyre brought in two runs with a double in the bottom of the fourth inning and Squyres had a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth as the Lady Bears rallied for a 10-2 win over the Lady Crusaders.

Block, the runner-up in District 3-1A, improved to 15-11 overall and will take on the winner of the game between district opponent Montgomery, which got in the playoffs as a wild card entry, and District 6-1A champion Catholic-Pointe Coupee in the regional round either Thursday or Friday.

McEntyre ended up going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in while Squyres was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Winning pitcher Misty Davis helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 and scored two runs.

Block took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Christian Life, the runner-up in District 7-1A, scored two runs in the top of the third inning.

But the Lady Bears took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third inning and pulled away in the next two innings.

David allowed two runs on six hits in a complete-game performance. Danielle Smith, who took the loss for Christian Life, gave up 10 runs on 11 hits and was hurt by a defense that committed eight errors. Smith went 2-for-5 and scored a run for the Lady Crusaders.
