Services for Robert Nelson Ogden, 66, of Natchez, who died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Basilica with Father David O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at Retirement Plantation Cemetery, in the Kingston community, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Ogden was born Feb. 21, 1941, in Colon, Panama, the son of James Nicholson Ogden Sr. and Ana Hercilia Vega Ogden. Mr. Ogden was a member of St. Mary Basilica. The Ogden family moved to Natchez in 1951. He attended the Natchez Public Schools and graduated in 1959 from Natchez High School. He was involved in sports and athletics all of his life, having coached and umpired in Dixie Youth Baseball for many years. He was active in Natchez Swim Association and Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball in Natchez and Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James N. Ogden Jr.; sister, Gladys Ogden Malroux; and brother-in-law, Francesco Roma.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Beacham Ogden of Natchez; sons, Robert Ogden Jr. of Natchez, Roger Ogden and Hunter Ogden, both of Tampa, Fla., Chris Ogden and wife, Rachel, of Ingomar, Pa.; daughter, Stacy Holloway and husband, Murray, of Madison; grandchildren, Mollie Marie, Abby Ann and Emily Elizabeth Holloway, Ella Ann Ogden, Brynn Catherine McBride, Robert Nelson Ogden III, Richard and Matthew Ogden; sister, Marion Ogden Roma of Rome, Italy; nephews, Franco “Paco” Roma, Robert Roma, and GianLuca Roma; sisters-in-law, Liz Beacham Wilkin and husband, Jeff, of South Fork, Colo. and Sharon Ogden of Natchez; nieces, Denise Ogden and Elise Ogden; cousins, W. Page Ogden and wife, Linda, Vanessa O. Graham, Valerie O. Seal; and cousins from Panama, Jorge and Choly Garcia-Vega, Jorge Garcia-Vega, Javier Garcia-Vega, Alida Garcia-Vega, and Enrique Garcia-Vega.
Pallbearers will be Chandler Russ, Cliff Brumfield, Murray Holloway, Luke Spillers, Jorgue “Chuckie” Garcia-Vega, Exavier “Nook” Logan, Robert Roma, GianLuca Roma, Paco Roma.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rut Horne, Nicky Myers, Hank Zizzi, Bobby Russ, Artie Joe Williams, Casey Ham, Trinity Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball, Brandon Horne, Clif Hinson, Corey Spring, Ben Long, Russ Simonton, John McBride, Charlie Brown and Fred Middleton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Girls Fastpitch Softball, Ferriday Dixie Debs c/o Rut Horne, or Natchez Humane Society.
