Hounds clobber Claiborne Academy

HAYNESVILLE, La. — It appeared to be another case of not holding on to a lead for the Huntington Hounds as they saw a four-run deficit go away in the bottom of the third inning and the game was tied at 5-5.

But unlike Tuesday night, when the Rebels rallied to win the game, Huntington made sure that would not happen Thursday night as the Hounds scored 21 runs over a two-inning stretch to tie this MPSA Class A South State Playoffs series tied at one game apiece.

Game 3 of this best-of-three opening-round series will take place today at Huntington at 7 p.m.

Huntington (15-11) broke the game open with a 12-run rally in the top of the fourth inning. The Hounds, who pounded out an incredible 22 hits in the game, increased their lead to 26-5 with nine runs in the top of the fifth.

Trey Corbett went off on Rebels’ pitching as he batted 5-for-6 with two doubles. Phillip Washington went 4-for-5 and Richard Steele was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

All of Claiborne Academy’s hits were home runs — one each from Goodwin, Tuggle and Singleton.
