Xi Alpha Phi sorority members celebrated the crowning of the 2007 Valentine Sweetheart during a banquet at the home of Beth Webb on Feb. 15. The home was decorated throughout in traditional colors of red and white with white hearts and flowers.

Upon arrival each member was given a copy of a song which contained words composed by Mary Lee Denton, social chairman, and adapted to the tune of “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.” The song and table decorations contained clues to the identity of the new sweetheart since she had previously been elected by secret ballot. Following the song Jeanette Webb, last year’s sweetheart, crowned Paula Young Sweetheart for 2007 and presented her with a silver engraved jewelry box, a certificate, and yellow roses.

A seated dinner was served from the spacious dining room. Following the dinner members formulated plans to attend the Historic Natchez Pageant in April.

At a previous February meeting, members enjoyed a special program narrated and demonstrated by Mary Lee Denton titled, “New and Exciting Methods of Growing Special Flowers, Vegetables and Trees.”

Service projects for March and April, which will benefit both the Natchez Humane Society and Natchez Stewpot, were voted on. In addition, members continued formulating plans to hold the 2009 state convention in Natchez.
